With the promise of high speed rail in the “Knowledge Corridor” - encompassing New Haven, Hartford and Springfield - the City of Meriden embarked on a transit-oriented development master plan for the area within a 1/2 mile radius of the ITC station. The construction of a retail shopping center, a new office park and the relocation of a medical center, all on the periphery of the City sparked the need for creative strategies to revitalize the Downtown. A newly constructed public park in the core, as well as some remaining historic assets, helped drive an effort to reshape a new community that can attract a desirable demographic.
